Hebrews 9:27 (NKJV): "And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment."
John 5:28-29 (NKJV): "Do not marvel at this; for the hour is coming in which all who are in the graves will hear His voice and come forth—those who have done good, to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of condemnation."
The Bible speaks plainly about judgment and the reality of hell. Jesus Himself warned that there is a place of eternal separation prepared for the devil and his angels. These warnings are not given to produce fear alone, but to awaken hearts to repentance and the mercy offered through Christ.
Scripture also teaches that darkness reflects separation from God's truth; those who refuse His light remain in darkness and move toward judgment. Yet in mercy, Christ calls us out of darkness into the light of life.
Every person will stand before God. This truth gives gravity to life and clarity to the gospel. Scripture calls us to walk with sobriety and hope, not fear-driven speculation.
Jesus’ Teaching on the Rich Man and Lazarus
Jesus gave a sobering picture of what follows death in His account of the rich man and Lazarus (Luke 16:19–31). In this passage, both men remain conscious after death. Lazarus is comforted, while the rich man finds himself in torment. The Lord also describes a “great gulf fixed” between the two, showing that the condition after death cannot be changed once this life has ended.
The message of the passage is not speculation about the unseen world, but a call to hear the Word of God now. Abraham tells the rich man that those still living have “Moses and the prophets.” In other words, the Scriptures already give sufficient warning and instruction. For that reason, the call of the gospel is urgent: repent, believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, and be reconciled to God while there is still time.
The Lord is rich in mercy. Through Jesus Christ, forgiveness is offered to all who turn to Him in faith and repentance (See glossary: Repentance, Judgment).
John 3:16 (NKJV): "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life."
Call to watchfulness: Keep your heart ready before the Lord each day. Walk in obedience, seek holiness, and speak the gospel with compassion while there is time.
Gospel Invitation: Trust in Jesus Christ today. He is faithful to forgive, cleanse, and give eternal life to all who come to Him.
